It is yet to be confirmed that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, violated the instruction given by President Muhammadu Buhari to relocate to Benue State.
It would be recalled that Buhari gave the order for Idris to relocate to Benue to ensure peace in the wake of the killings recorded as a result of attacks by suspected herdsmen.
However, during Buhari’s visit to Benue on Monday to commiserate with the people of the state over the spate of killings, Governor Samuel Ortom, reported to Buhari that Idris did not carry out his order of relocating to the state.
Ortom said the police boss did not spend up to a day in Benue to ensure security before leaving for Nasarawa State.
In response, the president expressed his ignorance and gave indication that Idris would have to explain why he did not carry out his order.
But speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the case against Idris remained an allegation.
He also said that it would be pre-emptive to suggest what the president would do in the case.

His words: “They were in the realm of allegations until the key stakeholders mentioned it yesterday. They were just allegations as far as I’m concerned.
“Even now, they are still in the realm of allegations until we hear from the IGP…
“It’s in the public domain that he went from Benue to Nasarawa but nobody knew that he did not spend a night in Benue.
“I’m aware of it but I did not know the length of time he stayed in Benue before moving to Nasarawa.
“The president may not know everything. He didn’t know that the IGP allegedly left Benue after one day but he got to know yesterday. So there are some things you can’t hide forever. So yes, the president may not know everything.”
When asked what step the president was likely to take, he said: “Then you will be asking us to preempt the president. That is solely in the domain of the president to respond to. That is strictly for the president.”
