As politicians in Benue state begin moves to occupy the number one seat of the state, incumbent Governor, Samuel Ortom, has stated that he has absolute confidence that God will bring the right person to succeed him.

Governor Ortom stated this while speaking to journalists at the Makurdi airport on Thursday when he returned from Oyo state where he went to commission projects on the invitation of the state Governor Seyi Makinde.

Ortom who acknowledged that several groups from different parts of the state have been wooing him to consider them when picking a successor, Ortom said “I have always said that power belongs to God as stated in the Book of John 3 verse 27 which says a man can receive nothing except it is given to him from above.

“I believe that at the appropriate time, God will bring the right person that will succeed me.

“For now people are jostling for it and I have told those in my cabinet to withdraw from all forms of campaign activities, but if they want to continue they should resign or in the alternative wait till maybe about the end of this year,” Ortom said.

The Governor who stated that it is too early to talk about who succeeds him in 2023 pointed out that it will constitute a distraction for him.

“I am too committed to ensuring that I provide dividends of democracy for the people of the state,” he said.

He also debunked the rumour making the rounds that he intends to reshuffle his cabinet saying “at the appropriate time it would happen but for now, I am comfortable with my cabinet.”

Speaking on his trip to Oyo state, Governor Ortom, had made similar trips to Rivers State and Delta state said he was in Oyo state to commission projects.

He recalled that the “Governor of Sokoto state was in Benue to commission my projects. Governor Wike was here to commission projects. The Governors of Sokoto, Enugu, Nasarawa who was represented came here to commission projects.

“More projects are coming up and I will also be inviting more of my colleagues, people from outside to come and commission the projects.

He explained that the visits enable them to go round and interact with themselves, as It helps them to understand each other better and see how they can provide good governance to the people of their individual states.

“You know that the Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), are the only ones commissioning projects,” the visible elated Ortom said.
