A group of women came together in Dutse to pay for haircuts for 200 “almajiris’’ to give them new looks preparatory to Eid-el-Fitri.

The women also sewed new clothes for the beneficiaries.

Leader of the group, Mrs Amina Usman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Dutse that she gathered her friends and requested them to jointly fund the overture.

She explained that it was all in the spirit of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the oncoming Sallah celebrations, two periods in which Muslims engage in acts of benevolence for divine rewards.

“We considered the fact that most of these “almajiris’’ rarely return to their parents to spend the Ramadan and Eid period and decided to offer them clothes and haircuts.

“We gathered some money with support from our husbands to buy fabrics and paid tailors to sew them for the “almajiris” so as to give them new looks for the festivities,”she said.

Mrs Usman explained that the women had earlier sampled the opinions of the “almajiris” and those of their teachers in the Islamic schools and they embraced the idea.

“Majority of them already have their haircuts and collected their clothes, while some are still waiting on the tailors to sew theirs.

One of the beneficiaries, 12-years-old Abubakar Hamidu, commended the women for their support when he spoke with NAN.

“We are very grateful and happy over the gesture and we promise to pray for the benefactors,” he said.

A teacher from one of the benefiting Islamic schools, Malam Mahdi Adamu, also commended the women for the gesture.

He urged wealthy individuals and governments to emulate the women to enable more “almajiris” to benefit.

Adamu prayed to God to provide the women with befitting rewards and grant their wishes for making the “almajiris” to smile. (NAN)
