There was anxiety as a woman dumped a day old male baby along Dibue Road, Ikot Ekpene local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

The dead baby was dumped Thursday afternoon in a Polythene bag with umbilical cord still attached to it.

It was not known as at press time who abandoned the baby but an eyewitness said, “I saw a lady around here this afternoon, but I didn’t know what she left behind until she was gone.”

It was gathered that the baby struggled for some seconds in the polythene bag before finally giving up the ghost.

Many onlookers condemned the attitude describing it as heartless and ungodly.

A woman who pleaded anonymity wondered:  “Why didn’t she look for any childless woman and hand over this precious gift? Why would any woman carry a child in her womb for nine months, only to abandon the  bouncing baby after passing through labour pains?

“There are motherless baby homes all over.  Why didn’t she dump the baby in a manner he would not die, at least a needy woman would have had a chance to own the baby. What a world!”
