No fewer than 21 armed bandits were killed in the clearance operation carried out by the military at Tunga Daji, Anka local government area of Zamfara State on Wednesday.
An army office and a soldier were however killed in the battle.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.–Gen. Texas Chukwu, who made the disclosure in a statement he issued on Thursday, said some of the bandits escaped with gunshot wounds.
He also disclosed that some arms which included five AK 47; one Light Machine Gun, five AK 47 magazines and 35 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered.
The statement reads in part: “Troops of 232 Battalion Zuru, on clearance patrols on Wednesday, April 4, neutralised 21 armed bandits in encounter at Tunga Daji in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

“During the fierce battle many bandits escaped with gunshot wounds to the top of high ground close to the area.
“Unfortunately, we lost an officer and a soldier during the encounter. The remains of the gallant troops have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.”
Chukwu also spoke about the situation at the bandits’ camp at Laka Village in Kebbi.
He said the troops deployed to Bena area killed one bandit when they raided the camp.
An AK 47 rifle with a magazine was recovered during the operation which was carried out following an intelligence reports.
