Following the death of Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Mrs Victoria Asher,  the National Secretariat of Union, Abuja, has directed Mr. Kajo Martins to continue to act as the State Chairman pending the conduct of full election in July, 2021.

The Vice President of NUJ Zone D, Mr. Wilson Bako who conveyed the decision of the union at the state congress held at David Ukuma Hall of NUJ in Makurdi, on Thursday, also directed the Kajo-led exco to constitute a credentials verification committee to commence the process of the election by next month.

The congress acknowledged the receipt of Covid-19 vaccines by the Benue state government and advised that vaccination be done across board with journalists in the state placed in first line charge.

Congress also resolved that state council and other top government functionaries should publicly avail themselves for the exercise to give members of the public confidence.

The union condemned continued attacks and killings in Sankera axis and urged security agencies to arrest the situation.

A statement signed by the communiqué committee chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Gwaza, Secretary, Kwaghmimi Ianna and Oryiman Gwaza, member, the union noted the efforts by Benue state government on ‘”weigh-in alliance” and appealed to Governor Samuel Ortom administration to expedite action to end the process.

The communiqué further condemned the spate of jungle justice meted on suspects even as it laments the high cost of food commodities in Makurdi the state capital and beyond.
