Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, said that as soon as the matter was brought to the university’s notice, the security operatives swung into action and rescued the victims from their attackers. According to Olarewaju, the victims were instantly moved to the university’s health Centre before Babalola and a few others were referred to the teaching hospital.

He added: “As soon as the university heard the news, we immediately moved in, and when Babalola was referred to the teaching hospital, we called his parents. His mother arrived, but unfortunately Babalola died at the hospital and his body was deposited at the morgue. The hospital has also released the body to the parents today (Sunday). “The thoughts of the university are with the parents of Babalola. Losing a child is painful and losing a university student could be more so. We pray to God Almighty to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss. We shall continue to strive to achieve the best for our staff and students and we call on security operatives to assist us in this regard.”
