A man who allegedly shot dead three police officers in a French village has been found dead, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Wednesday.
Darmanin said a fourth officer was also injured in the shooting which occurred as the gendarmes tried to rescue a woman who had taken refuge on the roof of a house in the early morning.
The injured police officer was taken to hospital.
He said the gendarmes killed were 21, 37 and 45 years old, offering condolences to the victims’ families.
It seems the woman whom the minister said was safe, was trying to get away from the shooter.
The 48-year-old shooter had set fire on his house in the central French Department of Puy-de-Dome, according to Darmanin.

The man had attracted attention in the past because of a child custody dispute, and the police operation was related to “intra-family violence,” according to AFP.
The interior minister said in the tweet that he was on his way to the scene of the crime as firefighters battled to put out the blaze.
Darmanin said a large number of security forces, including elite police officers had been deployed. (dpa/NAN)
