The Police Command in Zamfara State has issued a 14-day ultimatum for the surrender of all arms possessed illegally.
The order was to bandits, unlawful groups and individuals.
The order was given in a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Shehu.

According to him, the order followed the increase in the crime rate in the state.
He said upon expiry of the ultimatum, the ongoing mop-up of small and light weapons would be intensified.
He warned that any person or group arrested in possession of firearms would be prosecuted.
Said he: “The ultimatum will commence from today, Saturday, February 3, 2018; therefore the outlawed groups, especially herders, farmers, yansakai, repentant bandits, vigilante and militia groups, which activities are not in conformity with the laws of the land, should abide by this directives.”
