A man accused of the 2005 murder of Sri Lanka ’s foreign minister is under arrest in Germany on terrorism charges, prosecutors said on Thursday.
The 39-year-old is accused of being a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) group between 2002 and 2009.
During this time, he allegedly was involved in an attack that left the foreign minister, Lakshman Kathirkamar, dead.
The accused also allegedly participated in the attempted murder of another politician.

LTTE was engaged in a civil war with the Sri Lanka military for years, trying to carve out a homeland in the country’s north, before its forces were decimated by the army in 2009.
The group is considered a terrorist organisation by the prosecutor’s office in Germany.
The Sri Lankan native was arrested in southern Germany.
A prosecutor’s statement did not say how long he had been in Germany or why he was in the country. He has been detained since Wednesday.
