The University of Lagos (UNILAG) lecturer, Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu, at the centre of the current sexual scandal engulfing the institution has reportedly attempted suicide.
Igbeneghu was among the lecturers exposed by a documentary by the British Broadcasting Commission (BBC). He was accused of harassing students for sex in exchange for grades/marks.
After gathering dozens of testimonies, the BBC sent undercover journalists posing as students inside the University of Lagos. Also, the BBC sent undercover reporters to the University of Ghana.
Meanwhile, the Foursquare Church expelled him as one of their ministers following the damaging allegations.
In a statement shared on their Twitter page, the church explained that they do not condone such acts. Further, it disassociated itself from the conduct of Igbeneghu.

Meanwhile, the university don had come under heavy attack on social media. A number of social media users flocked his Facebook timeline using all sorts of language against him.
A close family friend has confirmed that the lecturer was admitted to the hospital after he drank rat poison in an attempt to kill himself.
In the late hours of Monday evening, the lecturer was reportedly found on the floor unconscious with bubbles in his mouth before he was rushed to Reddington Hospital.
A Twitter user close to the source further tweeted, “Boniface Igbeneghu attempted suicide last night and is currently in Reddington hospital, under supervision.
“We need him alive to face the university’s disciplinary panel & be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Nigerians have now reacted saying, he must live to face the law,” he said.
