Following a report by its Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, the Senate on Thursday rejected Ahmed Mahmud as electoral commissioner for Zamfara State.
Mahmud was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for approval by the Senate to represent Zamfara State in INEC.

In the report of the Senator Sulieman Nazif-led committee on INEC, the governor of Zamfara, Abdullaziz Yari and some major stakeholders were opposed to the choice of Mahmud.
Also, two of the legislators from the state claimed that the nominee was from Sokoto and not Zamfara, hence their disapproval.
The Senate however confirmed the nominations of Rufus Akeju for Lagos State and Mahmud Isah for Kebbi State as electoral commissioners.
