Former Governor of Benue State and Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District, Sen. Gabriel Suswam, has awarded scholarship to over 85 students from his Zone in Benue state currently undergoing legal training at the Nigerian law school.

Speaking at the event, “Presentation of Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam Bursary Allowance to Zone A Students of Nigeria Law School,” in Makurdi, Suswam said the gesture was part of his effort to ameliorate and meet some of their academic needs.

Senator Suswan, who was represented by his wife, Dooshima Yemisi Suswam, presented cash donations of N100,000 each to 50 of the students at the ceremony and explained that the other set will get their cash transferred into their bank accounts.

Mrs. Suswam, who noted that the gesture will be sustained on a yearly basis, said the same gesture will also be extended to students in other fields as well as non- professionals particularly in skills acquisition to encourage many to become independent and self reliant.

Handing over the monies to the beneficiaries, a visibly happy Yemisi, said the most important development anyone can hand over is that of human development because it does not dilapidated, but touches future generations.

“Among you here are future judges, future SANs and future attorneys general. So, as we hand this to you, do not forget someone aided you. Strive for excellence and be a catalyst to also uplift someone and the entire Benue society,” she advised.

She again thanked the Benue people for supporting her husband in his journey to the senate.

Earlier, the speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Titus Uba, among other dignatories commended Sen. Suswam for the scholarship and urged the students to be good ambassadors of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Gbatul Victor Pinenen, thanked Sen. Suswam and his wife for their magnanimity in cushioning part of their schooling costs.

Gbatul pledged not to disappoint the senator, but that they will put the monies to judicious use and called on other Benue sons to emulate him.
