Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has condemned utterances of the group known as Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, which issued a 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to implement the RUGA policy across the country.

Ortom’s condemnation was contained in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.

The Governor urged security agencies to arrest leaders of the group for the inflammatory statements which he noted were capable of causing anarchy in the country.

He said the action and comments of the Coalition posed a real threat to the unity of the country and deserved to be tackled urgently.

Governor Ortom stressed that the Coalition was not an alternative government and therefore had no right to issue such a warning.

He stated that if the government introduced a programme, but later decided to suspend it in the larger interest of Nigeria, groups under whichever appellation had no constitutional powers to coerce it to rescind the decision.

The Governor once again commended President Muhammadu Buhari for suspending the RUGA settlements plan, saying the move was in the right direction.

He further emphasized that the arrest of officials of the Coalition of Northern Groups will serve as deterrent to others nursing similar divisive tendencies.
