President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Ray Ekpu on his 70th birthday, saying his knowledge should serve as a benchmark for upcoming journalists,
The wealth of knowledge, wisdom and editorial skills of veteran journalist, Ray Ekpu, should serve as a benchmark for upcoming journalists, President Muhammadu Buhari has said.
This, he said, was in view of the fact that the future of the media rests on the “indelible tenets of fairness, accuracy and balance.”
Buhari made the remark in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Sunday on the occasion of the celebration of the 70th birthday of Ekpu.
Ekpu who is the co-founder of Newswatch magazine will be 70 on Monday.
Buhari said he joined the media world, family and friends to celebrate his years of contributions to national development through his writings.

He said his consistency and forthrightness in speaking and writing the truth to authorities deserved special commendation.
According to the president, Ekpu had risked his life in his fight for democracy and institutionalisation of good governance in Nigeria.
The president prayed that God would grant Ekpu good health and more wisdom to serve the nation and humanity.
