Former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has assured that if elected, his administration would defend all laws enacted by either the state or the federal government in order to avert crisis in the country.

Atiku Abubakar who spoke on Friday at the presidential campaign rally of the PDP in Makurdi said if he emerges victorious at the February 16 presidential election, his administration would be guided by the principles of rule of law.

He also said he would defend all laws enacted by governments be it federal, state or the local government in order to avert crisis and chaos in the Nigeria.

The PDP presidential candidate who identified insecurity as a major challenge in Benue and the North central said when voted into power alongside other PDP candidates “we will work together to address the security challenges in the zone and the entire country.

“We are also going to create an environment that will provide employment opportunities for our women and youths. We will also develop our Agric sector in such a way that we will provide processing industries so that our farm produce will no longer waste after harvest.”

Atiku promised that his administration would run a purposeful, people oriented government that would usher the country into an era of economic growth and prosperity.

He also promised to run a transitional government after which he would groom and hand over government to the youths at the expiration of his tenure.

The National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus cautioned Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure that the coming general elections are free, fair and credible warning that the PDP will not accept the results of the elections if they are rigged.

Secondus cautioned also that any attempt to rig the Benue elections as being threatened by leaders of the APC in the state would be met with serious consequences.

“We were told that Akume is inviting the military. This is not a military regime. This is democracy. Anyone that will send military to Benue is against democracy and we will reject such rigged result either in Benue state or at the national level.

“The world is watching this crowd here today, in Benue. In any way the APC wants to sabotage the 2019 elections, they will see the consequences.

Secondus also called on the federal government to set up an enquiry to probe the recent comment of the Kaduna State Governor Nasir El’Rufai who threatened that foreigners could be returned to their countries in body bags if they meddled in the election.

“If the government fails to do that we urge the International Criminal Court, ICC, to arrest Governor El’Rufai immediately for issuing that threat.”

Earlier, Governor Samuel Ortom, appealed to Benue people to support Atiku Abubakar because he believes in the rule of law ” and he is a man who would ensure that the constitution of the country is protected, and with that our open grazing prohibition law will be enforced.

“We also believe that he will not subject his presidency to a cabal. We want a real president that would deliver on his campaign promises. We believe that he will secure Benue state and Nigeria and there will be no more killings in the country.

“We believe that our IDPs will go back home and together we will move the country forward,” Ortom said.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki also called for suppirt for Atiku saying an Atiku presidency would unite the country, provide security and employment opportunities for all Nigerians.
