Six persons, including a Police Sergeant, have been killed in Okpoga, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, the Benue State Police Command has disclosed.
Though reasons behind the killing were still unknown as at the time of filing this report, the Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon, in a statement signed by his Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP. Moses Yamu, said the six persons were killed at a beer parlour.
The Commissioner said sporadic gunshots were heard at a beer parlour around Okpoga Roundabout yesterday at about 9 p.m., and his men swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel which forced them to flee.

He said, however, six persons including a Police Sergeant who was in mufti were killed in the beer parlour before the Police arrived the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the yet to be identified armed men were from Ollo community, led by one “Mathew.”
The Commissioner of Police has, however, ordered the Area Commander to relocate to that area, as teams of Operation Zenda, PMF and CTU have been drafted to the area to ensure that the culprits are identified and arrested.
He said investigation had since commenced to unravel the motive behind the attack.
