The African Senior Athletics Championship, referred to as Asaba 2018, was declared open on Wednesday.
The opening ceremony of the championship which was held in Asaba, Delta State, was attended by dignitaries.
Some of those present were Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa; his wife, Dame Edith; the President of International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), Lord Sebastian Coe, and the Minister of Sport, Solomon Dalong.

Present too were the President of Athletics Federation of Nigerian (AFN), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau and the Governor of Anambra State, William Obiano among others.
