The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has displayed the spirit of sportsmanship and shown that leadership goes beyond party politics and political affiliations.
Rivers State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Felix Obuah, made this assertion in a statement on Tuesday.
He spoke against the background of the presence of Wike as one of the top government functionaries present to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari to the country on Saturday.
It would be recalled that the president was away for over 100 days in London on medical vacation.
Expressing his view about the role played by Wike in welcoming the president back home, Obuah in the statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, said the leadership of the party was well pleased with him.
He added that Governor Wike’s consistent goodwill and prayers for the quick recovery of the president while he was away had never been in doubt.
He said the governor would continue to showcase his love for others and his nature as a detribalized leader.
He stressed that by setting political differences aside and teaming up with all other concerned Nigerians to welcome Mr. President back home, Wike had set another pace among his peers that leadership was beyond party politics and political affiliations.
Obuah expressed hope that the President’s resumption of duties would put the wheel of democratic governance in the country back on track.
He said the only way was to put “those lip-service loyalists” who had been feeding fat on President Buhari’s absence parking so that the nation could move forward.
He thanked God for the president’s recovery and prayed for the recovery of the APC in Rivers State “from mediocrity, visionlessness and unappreciation of the giant developmental strides of Gov Wike in only two years in office.”
