The battle to stop Senator Ademola Adeleke as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Osun State September 22 governorship election, has been taken to the court.

Some aggrieved members of the party in Osun State have challenged his qualification at the Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo for the position as they claimed that he did not have a Primary School Leaving Certificate.

The aggrieved members represented by their counsel, Mathew Ayandokun, request the court to grant an order to restrain the PDP from presenting Adeleke’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the candidate.

Also, he sought the court to stop INEC from accepting Adeleke’s name as the candidate of the PDP in the election.

The case came up for mention on Wednesday.

Ayandokun who spoke with journalists argued that the opposition to the emergence of Adeleke as the candidate was because he did not possess the said certificate.

Adeleke’s lawyer, Edmond Biri-Omoni, who also addressed the press, denied the claim.

He said his client should have been put on notice and served with the necessary papers before coming to court.

The case was adjourned till Thursday by Justice David Oladimeji.
