A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the former governorship candidate of the party in Abia State, Nyerere Anyim, has bagged the 2019 Global Leadership Award for his humanitarian services.

The event which held at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, was organized by Hope for All Africa International.

Speaking at the occasion, Anyim, charged the well-to-do citizens to help the poor in their midst.

He thanked the organizers of the event for finding him and other recipients worthy of the honour, saying that such award would spur him to do more in the service to the nation and humanity.

He said that the essence of wealth is to use it to affect the lives of others positively; stressing that wealth is more valuable when it is used for the betterment of humanity.

Anyim said that he set up the Nyerere Anyim Foundation in order to assist the less privileged members of the society.

According to him, many Nigerians, especially the less privileged, have benefited from the foundation’s scholarship scheme up to university level.

He said, “I had an experience from my village when I was to be given a chieftaincy title and I was asking myself why do I deserve a chieftaincy title when the roads to my village are not motorable and some children cannot get their school fees paid; when there are some people who go to bed with no food to eat.

“That led me to set up the Nyerere Anyim Foundation, where we have given scholarships up to university level to orphans and the less privileged in the society. We have also done some community based projects and we are still doing that.

“For some of us, if doing good is not a good business, we can’t be doing it. To the glory of God, this award will make us to do more.”

Bishop Tom Samson, in his ministration during the well-attended event, charged privileged individuals to use their wealth to help out the not-well-to-do members of the society.

He reminded the rich that wealth is transient and urged them to enjoy their wealth and also use it to assist humanity particularly those in need.

“Any opportunity you have to help somebody, do it. One thing about wealth is that one day; you are going to leave it. There is a secret fear in every accomplished man and that fear is that one day he will leave his beautiful cars and home to the great beyond.

“But one can use his wealth wisely before he dies. Nobody cares how much you have but it is the impact you make is what matters. How many people have you helped? How many families have you touched? Let us use our wealth to help others,” he said.
