The Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, has commenced investigations into last Saturday’s helicopter crash involving vice president Yemi Osinbajo.
It has deployed its investigators to the crash site in Kabba, Kogi State, to find out why the Caverton Helicopters operated aircraft crash landed.
Recall that the chartered helicopter conveying the vice president and some others to the Presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi, crash landed on Saturday, though none of the passengers was hurt.
AIB spokesman Tunji Oketumbi who confirmed the commencement of investigations said they swung into action following formal notification from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.
According to him, the investigators will interview the crew – pilots, engineers and other professionals from Caverton Helicopters –operators of the crashed chopper.
They will also examine the chopper’s wreckage and other relevant materials connected to its operations.
According to Oketumbi, a preliminary report on the accident is expected to be released within a few days.

Caverton Helicopters, in a statement by its Managing Director, Capt. Josiah Choms, also confirmed that aviation agencies had been informed about the incident and investigations have begun.
“An Augsto AW139 Helicopter under management by Caverton Helicopters was involved in a mishap on landing in Kabba, Kogi State on February 2, 2019 as a result of unusual weather conditions.
“There were no injuries to the passengers or crew on board and they were all quickly and safely evacuated. The relevant authorities have been duly informed and an investigation into the incident has commenced. We will, of course, support the authorities as required.
“We wish to reassure the public and our various stakeholders of our unwavering commitment to safety in all our operations.”
