Senator Magnus Abe who is representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in Nigeria’s National Assembly, has said the internal situation in the state wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is fast getting out of control.

APC in Rivers has been suffering from an internal crisis since some political elites within the fold broke ranks with their sponsoring political godfathers to express interest in contesting for higher offices in 2019.

Abe, an Ogoni, said people who risked their lives for the sake of the APC in the state were being labelled lords of the party who thrived on foisting electoral candidates on the party.

The senator who is pushing for the APC governorship ticket said the reason for the ugly development was due as a result of the independence of those involved on issues which they believed were for the best interest of the supposedly progressive party in the state.

Abe spoke during the burial of a chieftain of the party, the late Chief Idawari MondayPikibo Dickson, at Omelema in Abua Central, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

According to him, ”people who had taken all sorts of risks to keep APC in Rivers, are today being discriminated against. They are being haunted and starved. Why? Because they dare to open their mouths to say what they think is the best for the party.”

The lawmaker who is also the chairman of the Senate Committee on FERMA, however, commended members of the APC for turning out en-masse for the burial of Dickson, who he said made sacrifices for the sustenance of the party.

”I am always happy to see some of us who remember their sacrifices, who remembered their contributions, who remembered their commitments to our party.  That is why we come out to honour them and support them. I think that is how to belong to a party.

“I thank everybody who came to support this family today and pray that the day you will need people, God will provide people for you in quantum in Jesus’ name. Amen,” Senator Abe said.
