Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has pledged continuous government support to the University of Mkar, to enable it realise the goal of becoming a world-class university.
Ortom made the pledge on Saturday at the 4th Combined Convocation ceremony of the University held at its campus at Mkar, Gboko Local Government Area of the state.
Represented by his Deputy, Benson Abounu, Gov. Ortom said the government will do it’s possible best to support the Institution to overcome its challenges and move forward.
While congratulating the University for its remarkable achievements in just 14 years of existence, the Governor commended the NKST family for its huge contributions to education and health care delivery services in the state and Nigeria at large.

He directed the vice-chancellor to liaise with the state commissioner for Works for the government to properly address the poor state of internal roads in the university.
Earlier, Vice-chancellor of the University, Prof. Iorwuese Gernah highlighted the various achievements of the university as well as the challenges facing it and called for a grant from government and assistance in addressing the problem of poor roads leading to the University.
The combined convocation ceremony, which covered award of degrees and higher degrees to 1,177 graduates of the institution from 2015 till 2019 also witnessed the investiture of former Senator Barnabas Gemade as the Chancellor of the University.
Speaking, the new Chancellor called on the elites for support to help develop the young university into a world-class institution of higher learning.
The event was attended by His Royal Majesty, the Tiv, Orchivirigh Professor James Ortese Ayatse, Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Sen. George Akume, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Sen. Orker Jev, and several other dignitaries from all over the country.
