In his bid to provide a conducive environment for workers in the state, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has directed the immediate rehabilitation of facilities at the Benue State Secretariat in Makurdi.
The Governor who gave the directive after an inspection tour of the State Secretariat, said office furniture, toilets, electrical installations and other facilities should be properly checked and fixed for use.
He commended former Governor of the state, the late Aper Aku for building the Secretariat, assuring that State Government would not let the structure decay.
Addressing the workers who had assembled at the office of State Head of Service, the Governor also directed that boreholes be sunk for each of the blocks to serve as standby water sources in the event of delay in supply from the State Water Board, stressing that he had already released funds for recticulation of water at the Secretariat.
Ortom solicited the support of Benue civil servants to enable his administration address the issue of salary padding promising that rescued funds would be used for projects as well as payment of gratuities and pensions.
He stated that the PENCOM Act of the Federal Government had been domiciled in the state to ensure that those retiring from service received their pensions and other benefits without hitches.
Benue State Head of Service, Mrs. Veronica Onyeke, thanked Governor Ortom for his support to the Service, a disposition she said was a motivating factor for the workers.
The Governor also visited the premises of Greater Makurdi Water Works and the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Solid Minerals where he directed the installation of a morden storage system for vital documents.
