A crack team of policemen from Force Headquarters Abuja has stormed Delta State, arresting and taking away Mr. Sunday Okoro Ukwejemifor (a.k.a G1), a Special Assistant on Security Matters to Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

Ukwejemifor, who is said to have been on the watch list of security operatives since 2009, was arrested on Wednesday last week, September 9, 2020, over an alleged assassination attempt on one Mr. Sunny Nwakego, a prominent businessman in the Sapele area of the state.

According to the paper Ukwejemifor was arrested alongside six others, namely, Ayomanor Tobore, Romeo Okoro, Precious Oghaje, Blessing Isaba, Eseoghene Ogheneovo and Iwarri Mosco. Two other suspects are presently at large.

A senior police source at the Edo State Police Command where the suspects are detained disclosed that they are currently being interrogated while moves are on to track down the fleeing suspects.

“Mr Okoro’s arrest followed the confessional statement made by three suspects who were earlier arrested following intelligence by some of our men in Sapele.

“As we speak, the investigations are ongoing. Though there has been pressure from top politicians from Delta State for the case to be transferred to the state, I can assure you that we will be very fair and thorough in this matter. If at the end of the investigations we find out that they have no case to answer, so be it, but we shall certainly not succumb to pressure,” the source added.

Investigations showed that Ukwejemifor had similarly been arrested years ago for alleged cult-related activities but was, however, left off the hook following the intervention of a prominent politician from Sapele who allegedly used him for the 2015 election.

Following his arrest, he was charged at the Magistrate Court 1V, with case file charge number MS 193C. The case was later thrown out for lack of diligent prosecution, and Ukwejemifor was rather rewarded for his role in the 2015 general election with appointment as Special Assistant on Security Matters to Governor Okowa, a position he retains till date.
