Governor Dapo Abiodun has taken significant steps to address the severe flooding crisis in the Isheri community of Ogun State. In a commitment to alleviating the suffering of residents, he promised urgent action during his recent visit.

The governor assured the community that he is fully committed to resolving the issue and emphasized his administration’s dedication to keeping its promises. He expressed sympathy for the affected residents and pledged immediate action.

To tackle the problem effectively, Governor Abiodun stated that the Commissioner for Works would assess the situation and determine the necessary actions. Furthermore, the Minister of State for the Environment, who hails from Ogun State, has been engaged to address the situation.

Additionally, Governor Abiodun pledged to escalate the matter to the Vice President and the President to ensure it receives the necessary attention and a lasting solution.

The governor, along with the Minister of Water Resources, plans to visit the affected community shortly. During this visit, they will discuss the Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority’s activities, particularly concerning the management of the dam’s water release.

Addressing another issue, Governor Abiodun noted the poor state of the Kara cattle market’s surroundings, describing it as unsightly and incompatible with the vision of a “new Ogun State.” He emphasized the need to address environmental and waste disposal concerns.

While acknowledging the market’s importance in providing services to a large population, [Governor’s Name] promised a comprehensive beautification plan for the area. This plan will involve constructive engagement with the market’s stakeholders.

The Chairman of Riverview Estate, Abayomi Akande, shared insights into the challenges faced by residents due to the recurrent flooding. He called for a panel of inquiry into the operations of the Oyan Dam to prevent the frequent release of water that causes havoc in the state.

Akande commended Governor Abiodun for taking action to address security concerns, including incidents of robbery, and urged the state government to consider converting the area into a Government Residential Area (GRA) through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to accelerate its development.
