Obong varsity:  Police launch manhunt for kidnappers of female students

Manhunt for the three female students of Obong University, Akwa Ibom, kidnapped by some hoodlums has begun, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced.

The girls were kidnapped by some hoodlums who invaded the school early Friday morning.

Eight in number, the hoodlums were said to have overpowered the security guards at the school and kidnapped the girls.

The Police spokesman in the state, DSP Macdon Odiko, explained that the hoodlums launched the attack from the bush.

He however said the police rescued one of the female students.

The student who was injured, he said, was already receiving medical attention.

His words: “One person was injured and she is the person rescued by the police. She is at present undergoing treatment in a hospital in the state.

“The incident occurred about 2 a.m. on Friday within the female hostel. The hoodlums were about eight in number and the university security men were not armed.

“They came in from the bush as there is no perimeter fence around the school premises.”

While stating that they were yet to arrest anyone, the police said they would do everything possible to rescue the girls unhurt.
