Enugu State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Greg Nnaji, has said there were no casualties, or loss of life in the snap that took place at the ongoing construction of pedestrian bridge along Garki road in Enugu.
The commissioner, in a statement in Enugu on Saturday said, “we did not record any casualty when the scaffold framework of a section of the stair-way of the ongoing constructed pedestrian bridge snapped on Friday.
“We have visited the site for on-the-spot assessment of the incident and the ministry has issued a stop-work order on the contractor handling the project.
“The incident was as a result of the sudden break of the concrete work during the casting of the stair flights for the pedestrian crossing bridge,” he said.

According to him, the contractor had deformed the form and removed the re-bars for safety of road users.
Nnaji reiterated the government’s commitment towards the provision of sustainable infrastructure in the state in line with world’s best practices and advised the general public to go about their normal businesses.
He added that necessary safety precautions had been put in place and vouched for the structural integrity of projects done by the present administration.
He added: “However, notice of default has been transmitted accordingly to the contractor to explain to the ministry in detail immediately what happened.”
