According to the Daily Mail, the victim identified as Mohamed Al-Zufairi took his eight year old daughter to buy sweets and was waiting for her outside the shop when Omotoso approached him.

The duo had an argument before Omotoso, who was wearing a parka-style coat with the hood pulled up, stabbed Mr. Al-Zufairi and ran away.

He was arrested the next day at Gatwick Airport after buying a one-way ticket to Lagos, Nigeria.

During the first trial, Omotoso who has eight previous convictions, including battery and drug offences accepted stabbing Mr. Al-Zufairi but claimed he acted in self-defense.

Detective Inspector Jon Meager said, ‘’CCTV footage of the incident showed Omotoso walking in a “purposeful” manner before approaching Mr. Al-Zufairi.’’

Judge Nicholas Cooke found Omotoso guilty of manslaughter and sentenced him to 18 years behind bars.

Delivering his judgement, he said,  “Sadly the carrying of knives is all too common.”

‘’I hope his conviction gives Mohamed’s family a measure of closure and comfort,” Inspector John remarked.
