The Anglican Women Organisation, Ikole Ekiti Archdeaconry on Tuesday offered a special prayer for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, as the nation marked her 58th independence anniversary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the occasion was held at the auditorium of St. Paul Anglican Church, Ikole-Ekiti.

NAN also reports that the prayer session led by the union’s president, Mrs. Esther Oke, was themed “Spare Your People Oh Lord, Do Not Give Your Heritage to Reproach” and taken from Joel 2 verse 17.

Oke, who prayed that God should uphold the nation, said it was imperative to offer prayers and thanksgiving to the creator for sustaining the country since independence.

“It is in our usual practice to offer prayer for peace, progress and development for the nation, every year she marked her independence anniversary.

“Of the truth, we have been faced by many challenges, but God has always been seeing us through as a nation.

“The Anglican women organisation, particularly Ikole-Ekiti Arch Deaconry, has always gathered to offer prayer for a peaceful nation, that is what we have done today again,” she said.

Also, a member of the organisation, Mrs. Funmilayo Abidakun, said that as mothers, it was important to support the nation in prayers.

“As women, mothers, we believe in prayers, because with prayers and supplication, God can take Nigeria to her promise land.

“Our nation needs God’s intervention at all times, so that her citizenry can live peacefully irrespective of our ethnic, religious and political differences.

“It is in the atmosphere of peace that we can achieve the desired development,” she stated.
