Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has presented appointment letters to the four newly appointed Emirs in the state in defiance of a court order restraining him from doing so.

The presentation ceremony was held at Sani Abatcha Stadium.

Recall that Justice Saminu of a Kano High Court on Friday issued an interim injunction ordering the governor not to give effect to the law creating the new emirates which he (Ganduje) signed on Wednesday.

The suit had been instituted by one Rabi’u Sule-Gwarzo challenging the decision of the governor to create the four new emirate councils.

The court had also directed all parties in the suit to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.‎

In a press statement earlier on Saturday, the state government claimed not to have received the court order.

The statement signed by the Press Secretary to Gov. Ganduje, Abba Anwar, said the appointment of the new emirs was done before the court order, adding that the public presentation of the letters was a mere symbolic gesture.

Speaking during the presentation of the letters of appointment to the new Emirs, the governor charged them to be agents of unity, peace and development adding that they must strive hard to unite people of their domain irrespective of their differences as well as encourage active and deeper participation of the people in all facets of development.

He further charged all district heads in the new emirates to be loyal to the new Emirs‎.‎

The new Emirs in their separate speeches, expressed appreciation to Kano government, Gov. Ganduje, the State Assembly and well wishers for their support and show of love promising to work for the betterment of the state, as well as justify the confidence reposed in them by the people by carrying everybody along.
