Hundreds of insurgents in Garin Maloma area in Sambisa Forest, North East, have been neutralised by the Nigerian Air Force.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, made this known in a statement he issued on Saturday.
He said the Air Force struck the insurgents after it had, through its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (iSR) platform, sighted them (insurgents) gathered under some trees.
“Consequently, a combination of NAF fighter aircraft namely the F7-Ni, Alpha Jet and L-39 ZA aircraft was detailed to carry out air interdiction on the insurgents gathering.
“The Alpha Jet aircraft acquired and attacked the target with bombs, neutralising many of the insurgents.
“Thereafter, the F-Ni aircraft immediately conducted bomb attack, which resulted in the death of more insurgents.
“The L-39ZA aircraft then followed through by strafing fleeing terrorists with rockets, killing most of them in the process,’’ Adesanya said.
He said some of the insurgents who survived the attack were seen scampering from the location.
Adesanya also spoke about the efforts to assist the victims of flooding in Benue State.
He said NAF conveyed NEMA’s Director-General and his officials to Makurdi, Benue, following the presidential order to assist the victims of flood in the state.
