An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that a 37-year-old mother, Ajoke Adebayo, be remanded in Kirikiri Prison, for allegedly assaulting her seven-year-old son.
Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, said the defendant should cool her heels in prison pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP and directed the police to forward a duplicate of the case file to the DPP.
She also declined to take the defendants’ plea and adjourned the case until June 3.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant beat her son who was not named to a pulp and used a razor blade to cut him in several parts of his body, including chest and hands.

“The mother claimed that she caught her son, the victim, putting his finger in his younger sister’s vagina which led to her using a razor blade to grievously harm his body and beating him with a cane,” he said
Emuerhi said that the defendant committed the offence on March 30 at her residence.
He said that the case was reported at the Area ‘G’ Police Station, Ogba, by a resident in the area and later transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, for further investigation.
Adebayo, a resident of Imojo Street, Bible Pattern Junction, Obawole Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos, is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and breach of peace, contrary to the provisions of Sections 168 and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
