The Senate has summoned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over the arrest of the senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye.
The summon was issued on Wednesday at the session of the Senate.
While directing Idris to appear before the Senate on Thursday, the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, said the Senate leadership was worried over the turn of events as they concernd the arrest of Melaye.
Also in solidarity with Melaye, the Senate adjourned sitting for the day.
While Senator Sam Anyanwu moved a motion expressing worry over the arrest of Melaye and other developments surrounding it, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa moved the motion for the adjournment of the sitting.
He argued that there was no point sitting when the health situation of Melaye was uncertain.
It would be recalled that Melaye was hospitalised as a result of the injuries he sustained in his bid to escape from police arrest.
The lawmaker who has been having a tough time with the police since Monday was said to have jumped out of a moving police van.
The police were reported to be taking him to Lokoja, Kogi State, where he would be arraigned, when the incident happened.
He was said to have landed at Zankli Medical Centre in Utako District, Abuja.
He was said not to be in a very critical condition.
The police, it was reported too, had gone to the hospital and effected his arrest again.
