The Duchess of Sussex is due to enter the next phase of her battle against Associated Newspapers Limited on Tuesday over a letter she sent her father.
Meghan is suing the newspaper group, which owns English newspaper the Mail on Sunday and its sister website the Mail Online, over an article which reproduced a letter she sent her father, Thomas Markle, in August 2018, shortly after she married Prince Harry.
Lawyers for the duchess are suing for alleged misuse of private information, copyright infringement and breach of the Data Protection Act over five articles in total, which were published in February 2019.
They have applied for a summary judgment to Britain’s High Court, where the case is being heard, which could allow the judge to resolve the issue without needing to hear the case in a trial.

If Meghan’s application succeeds, the judge will decide the case based on the evidence provided, but if not, she, the newspaper and her family and friends could potentially be called to give evidence.
This week’s hearing is being held remotely and is due to last for two days.
Prince Harry published a rare statement in November 2016 condemning the way Meghan was treated in the press after rumours of their relationship surfaced.
The high-profile case concerning the letter’s publication was filed by Meghan’s lawyers in September 2019.(dpa/NAN)
