The Federal Government on Wednesday gave permission for markets in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, where it had imposed a lockdown to open between the hours, of 10:00a.m and 2:00p.m every other day.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had in his nationwide broadcast on Sunday ordered a complete cessation of movement in the three areas following the high number of coronavirus cases in Lagos and Abuja.
The lockdown order on Ogun State, according to the President was due to its close proximity to Lagos.
At a briefing on Wednesday, the National Co-ordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Aliyu Sani, said that only food and groceries sellers were allowed to open within the hours of 10a.m and 2p.m every other day.
He said: “For markets, only shops and stalls selling food and groceries shall be allowed to open to customers between the hours of 10:00a.m and 2:00p.m.

“For supermarkets and food stores, their opening hours must be between 10:00a.m and 4:00p.m and all owners and managers must screen staff and customers before entry.
“On arrival, all staff must be screened for a high temperature and all those found to have a high body temperature above 38, will be denied entry and advised to seek immediate medical attention.
“All deliveries for supplies and products for these supermarkets must be made between the hours of 5:00a.m and 9:00a.m.”
Sani further stated that at any point in time, the total number of customers inside each store must not exceed a third of the store’s total capacity.
The COVID-19 Task Force Coordinator urged shop owners to ensure that all shelves, aisles and stores were cleaned and disinfected upon closure at 4:00p.m, while by 6:00p.m staff must vacate the shops.
