The Chairman of Ushongo Local government area, Mr. Joseph Asawa, has raised an alarm following the death of one Mr. Ordue Akume, who was tortured to death over a missing goat.
Already, the Benue state Police command said they have arrested five suspects in connection with the case.
A press statement signed by the Information Officer of Ushongo LGA, Mr. Edmund Igbawua said it was reported that the youngest sibling of the deceased Akume had allegedly reported to the youths that his goat was missing.
In the process of investigating to find the culprit, they decided to consult an Oracle who revealed to them that it was the deceased who stole the goat.
It was gathered that the accused had, however, denied the allegation but in a bid to ensure that he admitted and returned the said goat, the suspects inflicted upon him all forms of torture.
The Next Edition gathered that all pleas by neighbours and passers-by to make the youths halt the torture fell on deaf ears as they continued to torture him.
However, when it became obvious to them that he could not survive, they dumped him at a private clinic where he gave up the ghost.

Mr. Asawa who visited the scene of the incident ordered their immediate arrest and vowed to ensure that they would be made to face the full weight of the law.
The Council Chairman who expressed shock at the barbaric act enjoined the police and traditional rulers to effect the arrest of six culprits who are now in police net.
He also visited the clinic where the corpse was abandoned and moved it to General Hospital for further necessary action.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene confirmed the incident saying five suspects had already been arrested and moved to the State Police Command in Makurdi for further investigation.
“We have arrested five suspects in connection with that case and as soon as we finish investigation, we will arraign them,” she told the Next Edition on the phone.
