A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that one Ali Jibrin, 20, should be given seven strokes of the cane for stealing iron rods worth N50,000.

The Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel, gave the order after convicting Jibrin on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.

Jibrin, a resident of Kinkinau Kaduna, had pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.

The prosecutor, Mr. Chidi Leo, had told the court that one Haruna Samaila of Plot 32 Bright Construction Company, Kawo, Kaduna, caught and brought Jibrin to Kawo Police Station on June 5.

He submitted that Jibrin and two others at large broke into the complainant’s warehouse and stole iron rods meant for construction.

The prosecutor told the court that Jibrin and the others attempted to escape, but the complainant and his staff raised an alarm which attracted neighbours, who apprehended Jibrin while the others fled.

Leo said that the rods were found in Jibrin’s possession and he confessed to the crime.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 203 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. (NAN)
