Tony Aziegbeni, chairman of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, displayed partisanship when he advised the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to provide security for people who are not members of Edo State House of Assembly.

Aziegbeni in an interview maintained that what happened in Edo House of Assembly was an attempted coup, stressing that Malami turned the law upside down when he took that decision.

The PDP chairman said, “He (Malami) should have been more circumspect. But, his action showed that he was very partisan. He did not have any business advising the Inspector-General of Police to provide security for people that are not members of Edo State House of Assembly.

“Citizens of Edo State on that day came out in their numbers, asking questions about what was happening. When they were told, they said they were not going to go home, but would remain there. It was unfortunate when those people were addressed as members of Edo State House of Assembly.”

The PDP chieftain stressed that out of the 17 persons, only three were recognised by law, because they served a few times.

“It is only the three of them that can lay claim to anything in Edo State House of Assembly. I am worried when people refer to them as members of the House, because they are not, and they should stop parading themselves as members of Edo State House of Assembly,” he said.
