Lockdown: Police Arrest, Prosecute 150 Violators In Kano

The Kano State Police Command said it has arrested and prosecuted over 150 persons for allegedly flouting the lockdown imposed on the state by President Muhammadu Buhari last week.

Recall that in his nationwide broadcast on April 27, Buhari announced a complete lockdown in Kano following the a rise in the number of deaths attributed to unknown source.

Eighty percent of the deaths have since been found to be linked to COVID-19.

The Spokesman for the Kano Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who made known the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the violators were arrested at different points within Kano metropolis.

He said they were prosecuted in the 11 mobile courts newly inaugurated by the state government.

According to Haruna, the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have been deployed to guard all the entry points across the state to monitor and ensure strict adherence to the lockdown order.

“We are using social media platforms, radio stations, television and print media channels to educate residents on why they should obey the lockdown order.

“The command will not tolerate defying lockdown order, our officers and men have been asked to ensure the fundamental human rights of citizens while enforcing the lockdown order in the state,” he stated.

He urged residents to comply with the Presidential lockdown order and strictly practice physical distancing, washing of hands with soap under running water or use of hand sanitizer to stay safe.
