The 22-year-old is said to be Jurgen Klopp’s top transfer target this summer as he looks to reinforce his bench with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah nailed-on starters.

Sarr has risen to the top of Liverpool’s wishlist because of his ability to play on either the wing or through the middle – making him a more attractive proposition to Wolves star Adam Traore, according to the Sun.

Sarr would also be more likely to be patient waiting for a first team opportunity, while Traore is expected to demand a first team spot, the report adds.

It claims Liverpool officials are said to be getting serious about completing a transfer swoop for Sarr and will table an offer in line with their asking price.

Sarr joined the Hornets for a fee of around £30m from Rennes last August and is expected to leave Vicarage Road following their relegation from the Premier League.

Watford are under pressure to cut costs ahead of their return to the Championship but are not willing to take a loss on the Senegalese forward.

Sarr enjoyed an impressive first campaign in the English top-flight – scoring five goals and registering five assists. Two of those goals and one assist came from Watford’s shock 3-0 win at home to Liverpool on February 29, ending the champions’ 18-match winning streak.
