The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, on Tuesday, rolled out a list of 64 traffic offences and their penalties.
LASTMA in a tweet @followlastma, urged all residents of the state to “Ensure to #ObeyTrafficRules at all times #ForAGreaterLagos.”
It further said; “Let’s bring back sanity on our roads. Let’s spread the news. Ignorance is Not an Excuse.”
From the tweet, some offences carry penalties such as fines and imprisonment as well as training at the Lagos State Driving Institute, while some provide for the seizure of the vehicle of traffic offenders.
Some of the offences for which an individual would forfeit his or her vehicle include: Disobeying traffic control, personnel, neglect of traffic directions, violation of routes by commercial vehicles, parking on yellow line on a public highway or illegal parking and vehicles crossing double yellow line/centre line.
Others include: failure to yield to right of way of pedestrian at a Zebra crossing, driving in a direction prohibited by the law failure of slow moving vehicle to keep to the right lane among others.
