Katsina bye-election:  APC’s Babba-Kaita wins

Alhaji Ahmed Babba-Kaita of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has won the bye-election conducted in Katsina North Senatorial District on Saturday.

He was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He will now replace the late Senator Bukar Mustapha.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Hudu Ayuba-Abdullahi, announced the result in Daura, Sunday morning.

He said with a total votes of 224,607, Kaita emerged the winner.

His elder brother and closest rival,  Alhaji Kabir Babba-Kaita of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 59,724 votes.

He disclosed that the total number of registered voters was 864,046, while 308,500 voters were accredited.

Ayuba-Abdullahi said votes cast were 294,050, out of which 287,155 votes were counted as valid and 10,891 rejected.

Katsina North Senatorial District is the home district of President Muhammadu Buhari.
