Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the immediate-past governor of Ondo State, on Monday tasked government at all levels on the provision and distribution of adequate palliatives for the people with a view to sustaining the lockdown policies.
He urged governments, as a matter of urgency, to take issue of palliatives very seriously because the people had been seriously hungry.
“We need palliatives to keep our people indoors and stop the spread of this dreaded disease,” Mimiko said.
Going spiritual, Mimiko prayed for those at the helm of affairs of the nation to have the wisdom and political will to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said: “But, we also require a little more than mere palliatives to begin to address age-long socio-economic iniquities in our country, Nigeria. I pray that God will inspire and empower our leaders to do this and enhance our capacity to test, trace and treat.”
Mimiko, who commended the spirit of giving, and acts of kindness shown by those who had offered help to the vulnerable and the poor, admonished the citizenry to look beyond the current challenge and see it as another avenue to continue to take actions that would add value to the society and people around them.
“God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. Easter speaks to the ultimate love of God for us. Together, with love, may we overcome COVID-19 and come to a new realization of our shared destiny.
“The Bible tells us to bear one another’s burdens, and this is another good time to reflect on this and show that we are not just hearers, but doers of the words of Christ by extending our act of giving to the vulnerable members of the society and those whose daily living has been affected by Coronavirus pandemic. May the Risen Christ heal our land,” Mimiko said.
