Dozens of the security operatives stormed the complex on Thursday morning, barricading the entrance and the precincts of the assembly complex.

Meanwhile, The Next Edition gathered that Governor Godwin Obaseki has canceled his campaign activities for Thursday following the rising tension in the State capital.

The governor was scheduled to campaign in Edo North on Thursday.

The recent development followed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of a plot by Oshiomhole to lead boys to invade the assembly.

The alleged move by Oshiomhole may have followed the impeachment of the deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Yekini Idiaye by the House on Wednesday.

Just before 9.00 a.m. the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Frank Okiye stepped into the assembly complex with his security men escorting him through the horde of security men spread around the complex.

Meanwhile, the PDP in a statement alerting a security breach called on citizens to march to the complex to defend the House of Assembly.

The party’s spokesman, Chris Nehikhare in a statement early on Thursday said:
“It has come to our knowledge that the APC led by Adams Oshiomhole will this morning, Thursday August 6, 2020 lead thugs to the premises of the State House of Assembly in an attempt to illegally take over the house and legislative arm of government.

“He has over the last few weeks disbursed over N500m to entice and purchase members of the house for his illegal take-over attempt in a gestapo style operation.

“All Edo persons of goodwill should reject this brazen attack on our democracy and resist it.

“We hereby call on all Edo people to march to the House of Assembly complex in Kings Square in support of democracy and against this impunity.

“We cannot continue in this way!”
