JUST IN: Gambari Resumes As Buhari’s Chief Of Staff

Professor Ibrahim Gambari has resumed work as Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Without any formal announcement of his appointment, Gambari turned up for work at the State House on Wednesday morning.

The news of his appointment broke on Tuesday, without a word from the President or his media spokesmen.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President, Garba Shehu, reacting the journalists seeking confirmation of the appointment on Tuesday said he had no information regarding the development.

However, the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu Gambari in a letter signed by his media aide thanked Buhari for the appointment even as he congratulated Prof. Gambari on his new post.

Gambari, 79, who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, replaces Malam Abba Kyari, who passed away on April 17, from COVID-19 related complications.

He is expected to participate in virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting to be presided over by the president on Wednesday.

The new chief of staff who was a Minister of External Affairs during the military rule of Buhari in 1984, was seen in the Presidential Villa this morning.

He was received on arrival at the Presidential Villa by the State House Permanent Secretary, Tijani Umar and the Director of Protocol, Yakubu Ahmed.

Others on hand to receive the new CoS were the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs, Office of the Vice President, Amb. Abdullahi Gwari and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Garba Shehu.
