JUST IN: ASUU agrees to participate in 2019 General Elections – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has agreed to participate in the 2019 General Elections.

INEC made the announcement in a tweet at its Twitter handle, @inecnigeria

INEC had earlier expressed fears that if the ongoing strike by ASUU was not called off before the elections, it would have adverse effects in the electoral process given than some ad-hoc staff of the commission are drawn from the universities.

ASUU had embarked on strike on Nov 4, 2018 over unpaid allowances and poor funding of public universities in the country.
