The Jigawa State Government has confirmed that 92 persons died in Hadejia area of the state within one week.
Dr. Abdulwahab Muhammad, chairman of the investigating committee set up by Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar to investigate the mysterious deaths, made this known to journalists in Dutse, the capital on Thursday.
According to him, during their fact-finding survey, the team discovered that between April 28 and May 5, 2020 (one week), 44 deaths were recorded in one of the two general hospitals in the town while a community survey revealed 46 more deaths.

Dr. Muhammad further explained that in order to be sure of their figures his team, with the help of the traditional council and some undertakers, visited the two cemeteries in the area where they counted 92 fresh graves.
He noted however, that 70 percent of the dead were above 60 years of age with prevailing health challenges like diabetes, hypertension, liver disorder and dementia, among others.
Of the 92, he said only one had symptoms of COVID-19.
This, he therefore stated contradicted the suggestion that the deaths might be COVID-19 related.
