A pan-Igbo socio-cultural and political organisation, Imeobi Igbo Forum, on Thursday rejected the position of the South-East governors that security should be community-based to avoid having confrontation with the Federal Government.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman and Secretary of the Igbo Forum, Mr. Mike Ikegulu-Onugha and Chibuike Nwabueze, respectively, made available to The NEXT EDITION after its executive meeting in Onitsha, the forum maintained that the mantra of community policing had been on for decades without achieving any meaningful things for Ndigbo.
The forum insisted on the establishment of South-East security outfit like the South-West, warning that it should also be devoid of Federal Government’s involvement.

Part of the communiqué read: “The South-East governors should borrow a leaf from the South-West governors who established their own regional outfit without consultation with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), or anybody.
“We insist on regional security outfit that is indigenous and controlled by Ndigbo themselves.”
They warned that if the Igbo governors did not have the political will to deliver as the Chief Security Officers of their respective domains, they should resign as going against the will of the electorate was a sign of incompetence.
They lamented: “Today, the Fulani herdsmen have encircled the entire Igbo land, raping our mothers, wives, sisters and children. We also note with dismay the uncontrolled police, military, FRSC, Civil Defence Corps and other paramilitary road blocks in our zone that have turned into extortion points.”
